Who Stole the Kishka? Dyngus Day Buffalo Did, That’s Who! Few years ago, Justin Gorski inherited a few boxes of polka records that once belonged to his parents. With titles like, “Polka Fever,” “A Polka Blast,” and “A 70s Disco Polka Spectacular,” Gorski was driven to share the vintage polka wax with friends. In 2009, DJ Kishka was born when Gorski hosted a Polka Happy Hour at the Happy Dog Saloon on Detroit Street in Cleveland. Tricked out in lederhosen, a fake beard, and a little green alpine hat with a feather, DJ Kishka featured ONE turntable and his family’s cherished polka discs. What started as a novelty, has grown into one of the most unique and popular happy hours in Cleveland and is now held monthly at the Happy Dog. Dyngus Day Buffalo is PROUD to introduce Buffalo to DJ Kishka at the Dyngus Day Buffalo Party Tent at Pussy Willow Park.
The Kielbasa Kings Featuring Lee Ron Zydeco will return to Dyngus Day with peformance at Pussy Willow Park!
The Kielbasa Kings Take To The Throne
They were the sons of migrant sausage workers. With a 2/4 polka beat in their DNA, as young men they left behind their family’s traditions to begin performing a spicy blend of Zydeco, Cajun, Caribbean, Blues, Tex-Mex and New Orleans funk! For Dyngus Day 2010, the Kielbasa Kings featuring LeeRon Zydeco UNITE under POLKA POWER for one, explosive performance at Pussy Willow Park. Established in 1993, LeeRon Zydeco and band specialize in fun, danceable, high-energy entertainment. Lead by the freight-train grooves of accordion master, LeeRon Zydeco, the Kielbasa Kings play a combination of traditional roots styles as well as well-known classic rock and blues songs done in their unique “bayou boogie” style. From hard-hitting zydeco grooves to lilting calypso, waltzes, tex-mex and POLKAS, LeeRon will make the inaugural Dyngus Day Party Tent a memorable experience.
With plenty of room to polka, Those Idiots will end Dyngus Day 2010 at Pussy Willow Park!
It’s OK To Call Them Idiots
Listen around as I share the tale of a bunch of idiots. The story goes that a rock & roll cover band fronted by Myron Deputat was booked to play an Eastside Dyngus Day party. When the band showed up and discovered that the crowd was mostly senior citizens, Deputat quickly ran out, made photocopies of Ukrainian polkas and distributed them to the rest of the band. When they exhausted their selection of polkas to play, they began performing standard rock music to a polka beat. History was made that night and his band and Dyngus Day would never be the same. According to Deputat, “Polka music is all about living life to its fullest.” Those Idiots have been named the "Dyngus Day Darlings" by the Buffalo News and earning a Buffalo Music Award for "Best New Band" (12 years after their creation), they have created masterful polka arrangements of some of our favorite songs as well as performing traditional polkas. Their 2009 release "I Wanna Rock n Roll all Night and Polka Every Day" is stocked with brilliant arrangements and musicianship. This year, fans of Those Idiots will be guaranteed not be shutout from the fun. The Central Terminal will be the stage for the first of two landmark performances. Dyngus Day in the Historic Polonia District will then reach new heights as Those Idiots turn the area outside of the Terminal into “Pussy Willow Park” and play under a big top tent to an estimated crowd of over 2,000.
Get Ready for the BIG SHOW...Those Idiots at Pussy Willow Park. 10PM!
